At the San Carlo Theater the famous opera "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" by Rossini is staged

The famous work of Gioachino Rossini The barber of Seville will be represented at San Carlo Theater of Naples from 14 to 29 January 2014.

The opera was taken from the comedy of the same name by Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais, and first performed at the Argentina theater in Rome in 1816, with a libretto by Cesare Sterbini. Before Rossini also Paisiello had staged his own Barber of Seville in the 1782. The first of Rossini's version was a fiasco, perhaps due to the presence of followers of Paisiello in the hall or to the impresarios of the competitor Teatro Valle.

But with subsequent replicas the "new" Barber of Seville it had more and more success, to the point of becoming the symbol of the comic opera, and one of the most loved opera performances in the world, which in a very short time became famous in the major European capitals.

The plot revolves around the figure of the Count of Almaviva, in love with the beautiful Rosina, and the shrewd suggestions of Figaro, his barber and protagonist of the story, who must help him to conquer his heart. Against the backdrop of the evocative Seville of the 1800.

At the San Carlo Theater in Naples the opera is staged under the direction of Filippo Crivelli and with the splendid and luminous backdrops by Emanuele Luzzati.
