The exhibition was inaugurated on 11 February and can be visited up to 30th April 31 May 2018, Diocesan Museum of Naples, whose painting The Madonna with child in a wreath of flowers by Peter Paul Rubens and Jan Brueghel the Elder captures the attention of visitors for its extraordinary beauty.
In an octagonal frame there is in the foreground the queen woman, the Madonna, a fragile creature that generates God, who does not hold her child as her possession, but supports him with one hand.
The boy mentions the first steps on the floor of a stone balustrade just lapped by gray and white drapes, while the mother supports him with the arm and the right hand up to the ankle.
The picture is a example of a devotional iconography typical of Flemish art, but which originates in the exchanges between Flanders and Milan of Cardinal Federico Borromeo, patron of both artists. An interweaving of sacred images of flowers in trompe-l'oeil that they simulate a wreath hanging on the wall.
The exhibition represents a first step to give a new cultural impetus to our city and in particular to via Duomo, dotted with important museums. The ticket includes the temporary exhibition and a visit to the entire complex of the Diocesan Museum.
