Here is some exciting news for commuters from Naples: next week, ithe third new train for Metro Line 1 will make his entrance. After a series of technical tests and trials, Ansfisa, the National Agency for Railway Safety, gave the green light to the train, built by Caf, to enter service.

Increase in transport capacity and decrease in waiting times

With the addition of the new train, the number of trains available will rise to seven. Among them, some will be longer, passing from four to six carriages, allowing an increase in passengers transported from 800 to 1.200 per trip. This, in terms of frequency, will mean a train every 10 minutes on average, reducing waiting times for passengers.

This third train is one of 20 that the Municipality of Naples purchased for the Anm. Its commissioning takes place just over a month after the inauguration of the second, demonstrating a marked improvement in the pace of introduction of new media.

Full speed ahead to the fourth train

The debut of the third train brings with it a significant increase in the transport capacity on Line 1, which will rise to over 8.500 passengers. The goal of ANM and the Municipality is to progressively expand the capacity of all trains approximately 1.250 seats, to make the best use of the passenger waiting platform.

It can already be seen the arrival of the fourth train CAF, currently in the pre-operational phase. This will allow, in the next weeks, to reach a total capacity of around 10.000 passengers and to have 8 trains, all 105 meters long and each with a capacity of around 1.250 passengers. The possible addition of a ninth train could bring the frequency of trips to 8-9 minutes, a notable improvement, albeit still far from 2-3 minutes of the subways of the great European capitals.

Words of appreciation from the city authorities

The Mayor Gaetano Manfredi and the Councilor for Infrastructure and Mobility Edoardo Cosenza expressed their gratitude to Ansfisa for speeding up the testing procedures:

"A further step to improve the public transport offer in the city to help concretely improve the lives of citizens".

Gaetano Manfredi, Mayor of Naples

Cosenza then added:

“The National Agency has completely changed pace, with tests only at night and an organization that combines safety and speed in testing. This will allow us to further improve the service in the coming months, reducing waiting times. With the trains available, we will be able to gradually get to a train every 4 minutes, against 10 now".
