Naples, the metro in the Sanità district will be built: recovered funds and opening date

It was a hard blow for the citizens of Naples to discover that the government's PNRR funds ( part of the "Plan for Naples") had been revoked and, consequently, the city would have to give up on its dream of having a metro line 1 stop in the Sanità district.

There was, however, still a glimmer of hope, and today comes the seemingly definitive confirmation: the funds have been secured , and the Metro Line 1 exit in the Sanità district will be operational. Here's everything that was discussed during the meeting, as reported in the Council's press release of February 6, 2023.

Guaranteed financing

Councilor Cosenza specified that the "Sanità" entrance will be built and financed entirely with €6.9 million in PNRR funds . There still appear to be some bureaucratic issues : the technicians must conduct surveys on privately owned land , but the issue will be resolved without the need for expropriation and with limited impact on residents.

According to forecasts and projects, the time needed to complete the works will be 24 months , within the deadline set by the PNRR for 2026.

This project is therefore consistent with the identity and history of the places, just like the Metrò dell'Arte. Furthermore, there are no structural risks, as demonstrated by the numerous scientific studies conducted on the area.
