THECapodimonte Observatory in Naples has organized a series of meetings dedicated to the role of female scientists in astronomy, underlining the importance of the contribution of women and girls to science.

There will be 4 evenings, as part of an initiative entitled "The feminine side of astronomy”And it is a beautiful project promoted by the IAU, International Astronomical Union, also in anticipation of the International Women's Day which falls on March 8th.

THE8 March, on the occasion of Women's Day, will also be presented book "Villa La Riccia in Capodimonte: from rural casino to residence of the astronomers of the Royal Bourbon Observatory”Written by Liana De Filippis.

The book takes us to the discovery of Villa La Riccia, an elegant and noble building that for 5 centuries has risen from Capodimonte over the rest of Naples and which has seen the alternation of numerous events. It tells the story of many people who have inhabited it, intertwining them with the history of our city. Originally it was a fortified farm, then it became the residence of politicians and aristocrats and with the Bourbons it became the residence of the astronomers of the Observatory that was being born.

Free observations of the sky

As mentioned, there will be the presence of the members of the Neapolitan Amateur Astronomers Union who, after each meeting, will lead those present in the Square in front of the Monumental Building to start with the observations objects in the sky, weather permitting.
