GRIDAS (Group of Cultural and Social Initiatives of Scampia) organizes, as in past years, the 41st neighborhood carnival in Scampia, with the participation of schools, associations and individual citizens. This carnival represents a chance to recover manual skills, establish and maintain a popular tradition and exercise creativity using waste materials.
The theme of the 2023
This year, the theme of the carnival is “WHAT TITLE?”, or titles, titles and subtitles". This particular name refers to the sentencing sentence for "untitled occupiers" that hit GRIDAS.
In March, the sentence of "untitled occupants" fell upon GRIDAS. But we have titles: 40 titles of carnivals made, many titles of films screened and many still on the list to be screened, titles of books written and promoted. And not just us.
The "ownership" of the Cultural Presidia seems to be questioned throughout the city, only the "qualifications", the formalities, the bureaucracy, the tickets count, while real life is a completely different matter. Bodies, minds, people, questioned, lives hanging in the balance without rights, because without residence permits, to live, to demonstrate, to exist, and to resist without "papers". And yet headlines and headlines from the corrupt press that feeds stereotypes and prejudices, mud machines to crush redemption opportunities and legitimate protests and proposals.
Only those who manage to extricate themselves or do their duty as cultural educators go further: the right qualifications of those who delve into and narrate other aspects of reality. Subtitles for the deaf or to be understood and contaminated by interacting with other worlds and other visions, other ways of communicating. And whoever invents more titles, puts more.
The route of the procession
The event of the parade of floats, masks and colors will take place as usual on Carnival Sunday, which this year falls on 19 February 2023, departing at 10:00 from via Monte Rosa 90/b and will last approx 4 hours.
- Departure, 10:00: from the community center in via Monte Rosa 90/b, after the performance of the Musica libera Tutti youth orchestra (scheduled at 9:30).
- I continue: via Monte Rosa, piazza Libertà, via Monte Rosa, via Monte S. Gabriele, via del Gran Sasso, via Monte Rosa, ISES district (via Aldo Fabrizi, via Marcello Mastroianni), via Pietro Germi, via Fratelli Cervi, via Hugo Pratt. Allegorical dismantling of the negative symbols of the chariots at Largo Battaglia.
- Final party with the Italian Murguero Front.
