The Greek-Roman theater of Neapolis in Naples will be open to the public for free guided tours of the European Heritage Days 2017!

One of the most important archaeological sites of Napoli is the Greek-Roman theater of Neapolis located in the historic center and, on the occasion of the European Heritage Days, it will be possible to make some Free guided tours to discover its beauty the 23 and 24 September 2017.

Thanks to the Superintendence of Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of the City of Naples and the Central Planning and Management of the Unesco Territory- site of the Municipality, the excavation site and restoration of the theater will open its doors to the public and visitors can admire what has come down to us, from the interior corridors to the stands.

Nowadays the construction site is incorporated in the buildings which arise between via Anticaglia and via san Paolo ai Tribunali and this particular structure makes the site even more fascinating.

During the visit, a particular study will be made of the cavea area which during the High Middle Ages underwent a phenomenon of naturalization: the structure lost its ancient functions and, on the waste that has accumulated, the gardens are superimposed. This space then became a garden, from the late Middle Ages to today.
