For the first time the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli debuts on stage "West Side Story“, The wonderful musical born from the brilliant creativity of Arthur Laurents, author of the libretto, from the imagination of Stephen Sondheim who edited the lyrics, from the elegance of Jerome Robbins who followed the choreography and musical harmonies of Leonard Bernstein.
The musical made its debut for the first time in the 1957 at the Broadway Winter Garden Theater, and enjoyed enormous success to such an extent that it was replicated well 732 times before leaving for the tour. The story draws inspiration from the drama of "Romeo and Juliet", transposing the plot of the myth into twentieth century New York by addressing the emergence of conflicts in the new generations of American metropolises and converting the hatred of Shakespearean families into hatred between neighborhood gangs .
