Two important opera and ballet performances mark the return of the Teatro San Carlo to the Arena Flegrea of the Mostra d'Oltremare in Naples!
NOTICE: both shows have been canceled due to technical problems created by the Saturday rain 2 September that does not make it possible, in time, to prepare the stage by the Teatro San Carlo.
Ticket refund:
- holders of tickets for one of the two shows will be able to use them to attend the Cinderella ballet to be held at San Carlo on 18 September at 20.30 or convert them for an event of their choice for the new season, paying any price difference on the reduced rate. The Flegrea Arena of the Mostra d'Oltremare and Teatro San Carlo of Naples they have always worked in synergy and, after a few years, Massimo Napoletano returns with its own lyric and symphonic programming in this recently renovated location.
Indeed, in the month of September 2017 the Etes Arena Flegrea will enrich its artistic offer with two important works staged by the San Carlo, in the context of Noisy Naples Festival. From the 15 to the 17 September September 16th will be the turn of the Barber of Seville by Gioacchino Rossini, while the 23 24 September the ballet will take place Cinderella for the choreography of Giuseppe Picone.
As mentioned, it is a return since the San Carlo, except for a few years of pause, has always used the Arena for its shows, in fact since the inauguration in 1952 this place was born as summer venue of the Theater. FROM THE 2001, then, after new renovations, has welcomed internationally renowned artists such as Diana Krall, Robert Plant, BBKing and has been the setting for famous operas. It has therefore confirmed itself as a stage for rock music and is confirmed again this year as the venue for opera.
With this program classical music will be usable to an even larger number of people and not just to a more niche audience. The Arena is once again "a theater of masses for masses".
The Arena also has one scheduled "Educational season" for children, the public of tomorrow.
The Barber of Seville
The set up will be the historical one of the 1999 with the direction of Filippo Crivelli and the reprise of Riccardo Canessa who had already set up it a few years ago and was very successful. It will be a very “light” Barber of Seville, with scenes that are not realistic but pictorially evocative and a comic representation, without being grotesque. The story is always the one composed in 1816 by Rossini on a libretto by Cesare Sterbini from a play by Beaumarchais: a love story that implies the alliance of a Count with a Barber and juxtaposition between juvenile freshness and the cynicism of older people. A study on the inadequacy of man in the face of the vicissitudes of life.

Cinderella
After success of the staging at the San Carlo, the ballet Cinderella will land at the Flegrea Arena based on the classic fable by Perrault. THE music is by Sergej Prokofiev and there will be the dancers of the San Carlo Corps de Ballet with two important “étoiles” of St. Petersburg from the Mariinsky Theater. The Russian composer created a music inspired by classicism and each character is characterized by musical times that follow the vicissitudes.
