The magic of Christmas immersed in a beautiful medieval location! You can find it at the Castle of Limatola with its enchanting Christmas markets

If you want to immerse yourself in a perfect Christmas atmosphere in a suggestive location with a medieval flavor, you can not miss the Christmas market set up inside the Castle of Limatola, in the province of Benevento.

Here, on this hill that rises above the village of Limatola, the event is also held this year Cadeaux at the Castle, now in its fourth edition, an event that is experiencing a huge success of visitors, especially from Naples and its province.

We, too, of Napleske, let ourselves be fascinated by the Christmas atmosphere that already invades the cities and villages of Campania, and we have chosen to visit one of the region's most enchanting Christmas markets (to find out more you can read the our dedicated article).

Il Castle of Limatola it is a medieval fortification that can be seen as soon as you arrive in the village, it is also used as a refined hotel and ceremonies and receptions are held inside. From the end of November to the beginning of December, its internal and external spaces host stands and exhibitors divided by sector, from food and wine to handicrafts, from antiques to Christmas decorations.

Get to the Castle

Arriving in the country by car, it is advisable to leave your car in the streets near the center, some employees will show you where, and the cost of parking is 2 euro.

Then, to get to the castle, take the shuttle to Piazza San Biagio. The ticket costs 2 euro per person round trip, but you can also choose to pay 1 euro one way and get off on foot on the way back. The shuttles are very frequent, you do not wait for more than 5 minutes but you have to wait in line.

The entrance to the Castle of Limatola is 3 euros and includes a choice of a glass of mulled wine and a fruit juice.

Inside the Castle

As soon as you enter, you are immediately involved in atypically Christmas atmosphere, thanks to the constant background music that comes from speakers placed everywhere and that reproduces the most famous Christmas songs, and the bright decorations that decorate all areas of the castle, both external and internal.

Il external route takes visitors, including local food and wine stands such as cheeses, meats, roast chestnuts, typical sweets and mulled wine, to admire the splendid nativity scene made with poor materials by the artist Riccardo Dalisi.

Le inner areas of the castle they are entirely set up as if you were in a Christmas village, where stands and exhibitors of decorations and decorations for the tree, accessories and handicrafts prevail, with some places used for crib exhibitions.

Walking through the rooms of the castle you have the feeling of being in the middle of the Middle Ages, due to the presence of sellers dressed in period costumes and the frescoed rooms (restored), as if time had not passed. Inside the castle there is also a small chapel.

In the afternoon, or in the morning, they are also held entertainment shows with street artists, such as waders, jugglers, fire-eaters, Gospel songs and medieval fights.

For the little ones there is also one little house of Santa Claus to which children can ask for the gifts they want to find under the tree and leave the famous "letter".

From the terraces of the castle it is possible to admire one of the most evocative views of Matese and Sannio which, alone, is worth a visit to the Christmas market set up in this splendid location.

Refreshment points

The only weak point of the event is represented by a notable one scarcity of places to eat, if you intend to stay at the castle for lunch or dinner. There are some booths that offer complete menus at 10 euro, where you order and collect your meal, and then go and eat it sitting at one of the nearby round tables (in medieval style). Some areas are outdoors, others indoors, but you have to find a place, given the influx of people who fill these areas until late in the evening.

In short, the presence of food stands that offer "street" foods, such as sandwiches, fried food, or simply first and second courses that can be consumed on the way or sitting elsewhere, is missing.

All in all it is one of the Christmas markets in Campania more enchanting and engaging, which manages to give visitors a few hours of leisure and fun in the name of an intense Christmas atmosphere, which involves adults and children.
