Easter in Naples it is a moment in which the city dresses up centuries-old traditions. Between religious rites e culinary delights, the holiday is alive in the streets and in the hearts of Neapolitans, renewing ancient bonds every year community e spirituality.

Processions and religious functions

During the Holy Week, Naples comes alive with processions which are true shows of popular faith. Finally there is the Way of the cross, a living representation of Christ's ordeal, which crosses the streets of the historic center always passing through the Duomo and Piazza del Gesù, involving the faithful in a deeply felt journey.

Neapolitan Easter gastronomy

Easter in Naples is also celebrated at the table with a variety of dishes that are pillars of the local culinary tradition. The casatiello Napoletano, a savory pie that intertwines flavors of eggs, cured meats and cheeses, is a must for the holiday. There pastiera, both in its classic version and in the savory and rice variants, represents the sweetness and renewal of spring.

No less rich in history and flavor are the Esacrole pizza, pizza , Maritata soup, dishes that contain the essence of Neapolitan home cooking. The holidays are also an opportunity to enjoy the Baked kid, a traditional Easter Sunday dish, and the rice cake, simple but delicious dessert. Also the mother yeast, fundamental for many Easter preparations, has a leading role in this celebration of flavours.
