Giovanni Truppi It is one of the Neapolitan artists competing at the Sanremo Festival and this is his first participation on the stage of the Italian Music Festival.
His Sanremo journey could not have started better than this because, just before the beginning of the singing event, our singer-songwriter was awarded by MEI as the best independent artist. This is an important one critics prize voted by the journalists of the Festival's press room.
So, Sanremo has not yet begun and Truppi already stands out for the beauty of his work, entitled "Your Father, My Mother, Lucia".
We report that on February 4th it will be the cover night in a duet with Vinicio Capossela and they will sing a piece by Fabrizio De Andrè.
The prestigious award: the reasons for assigning it to Truppi
The patron of MEI, Giordano Sangiorgi, declared that Giovanni Truppi is an artist who he stood out for his lyrics and musical style and best represents independent Italian music, especially in this period in which, due to the pandemic, fewer artists from the independent circuit participate.
A circuit that, however, has the ability to grow more and more and to do it in parallel and in synergy with large stages such as that of Sanremo. By doing it, artists also manage to keep their integrity and identity intact without compromising with the mainstream.
The Lunezia Prize for Sanremo
Giovanni Truppi, before the start of the Festival, it also won the Lunezia Prize for Sanremo 2022 for:
its refined and original composition, endowed with its own peculiarities that differentiate it from the ordinary narratives of love stories because it knows how to tell an Italy that is only apparently minor and perfectly contemporary. Proving that it is possible to be an independent artist even at forty. Also at the Sanremo Festival.
Who is Giovanni Truppi
The Neapolitan singer-songwriter was born on 21 February 1981 in Naples and so far he has published 5 discs and one EP:

Also in 2019 he won the PIMI award as best independent artist by the MEI and his songs have often been used in the world of cinema, theater and TV.
Two years ago he also published a comic book, which accompanied the release of the EP 5 and which has the same title.
The Sanremo song
The piece he will present in Sanremo is titled "Your Father, My Mother, Lucia”And tells a love story written in collaboration with the leader of the I Cani group, Niccolò Contessa, and Peaceful.
The story is set in winter, a season not chosen by chance as it is full of bad weather and difficulties, which symbolize the obstacles overcome by the protagonist couple.
Lucia, on the other hand, is the name of the daughter.
