La opening night of Sanremo 2023 promises to be a great show, in every sense: for the first time ever in the history of the Festival, after two years of forced stop due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there will also be president Sergio Mattarella.
To announce it Amadeus, which a little while ago, through a press release sent to The Ansa, failed to hide his excitement at what is shaping up to be a full-blown event:
“I have the pleasure and honor to announce that President Mattarella will be there tonight for the first time in the history of the festival. It is an important sign of closeness to the world of entertainment.”

In fact, this year falls on 75th anniversary of the Italian Constitution and, for the occasion, in addition to Roberto Benigni, at the opening night of Sanremo 2023 will also be present Sergio Mattarella.
For some time now, the Italian president has already begun to participate in initiatives of this type, such as for example on Holocaust Remembrance Day, therefore, as told by John Grasso, adviser for the press and for communication at the Quirinale:
” It seemed right to us, given that the Constitution talks about the promotion of culture, a tribute to culture, not only high culture, even if I don't like these distinctions, but also to popular culture, and Sanremo is certainly the festival of popular culture.”
Mattarella, who will be accompanied by his daughter Laura, has decided to attend the 73 Festival of Sanremo also to show her proximity to the world of entertainment, which was the one that suffered the most during the closures to limit the spread of the Covid-19 infection.
