The best motorbike itineraries in Naples and Campania

Campania is the land of flavors, of the sea and of history.
Within the Campania region there are many natural or historical places.

The nature reserves are truly spectacular: from National Park of Cilento to the Valle delle Ferriere State Reserve, but also the Monti Lattari Regional Park and, of course, the Vesuvius National Park.

But we can also mention the Crater of the Astroni Nature Reserve or the Costa di Licola Nature Reserve.

How can we not mention the splendid archaeological parks famous all over the world for their uniqueness: from Pompei a Herculaneum, but also Cuma and Baia, with its underwater archaeological park.

But we also have the Naples underground, the amphitheatres of Santa Maria Capua Vetere and Pozzuoli.

Then obviously suggestive places that made history, like Amalfi and its Maritime Republic, Sorrento, with the spectacular view, Caserta and its Reggia. Then how not to mention the islands, from Capri a Ischia, Up to Procida.

But still we have not listed many other beautiful and suggestive places, and besides it would be very difficult to draw up a list.

We will try, instead, to suggest itineraries by motorbike, so that it is possible to admire as many beauties as possible of this splendid land, made of myths and legends, of stories and tales, where tradition mixes with modernity.


Itinerary among the Regional Parks of Campania

Avellino

The itinerary starts from Avellino, but before leaving you can admire the most beautiful places in the city of Irpinia: Museo Irpino, Urban Park Spirito Santo, Clock Tower and Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and San Modestino.

Leaving the city you go to Mercogliano, where you can visit the Sanctuary of Montevergine, in addition to the sanctuary you can visit the surrounding area, bordering the Partendo Regional Park, consisting of a chestnut, beech, holm oak, hornbeam forest etc.

If you are lucky you can also meet some specimens of deer, wild boar, roe deer, porcupine squirrels, wild cats or even golden eagles.

The Grotto of Sant'Angelo a Scala

The itinerary continues towards Sant'Angelo a Scala, where it is possible to see the Romitaggio rock settlement of San Silvestro, with the nearby Natural Grotto from which a water source flows.

After the nice cooling break we head towards Pannarano, a town with an undervalued historical heritage, just visit the medieval residence to realize it.
We continue by visiting San Martino Valle Caudina and Montesarchio, with its medieval castle.

The Taburno regional park

Entering the city you also arrive in the Taburno Regional Park, where you can meet foxes, moles, crows, hawks or peaks. The vagetal species present are the holm oaks, the firs, the beeches and all that can give the Mediterranean scrub.

After visiting the park, continue towards Madonna Immacolata and Bucciano, until you reach Sant'Agata de 'Goti, with its artistic and archaeological museum with finds from the surrounding area.

Crossing Faggiano, Verroni and Piscitella, you arrive in Nansignano, where we recommend a lunch break with local specialties, such as marinated soup or lightning and scams, but also scapece and pastiera.

Solopaca

Crossing Melizzano, you arrive in Solopaca, with its Palazzo Ducale dei Ceva.

After also visiting Foglianise you finally arrive at your destination, Benevento, a city rich in history, with its remains from the Roman era, such as the Arch of Trajan or the Roman theater.

You can also visit the Museo del Sannio, or the Rocca dei Rettore and the Church of Santa Sofia, without forgetting the Metropolitan Cathedral of Santa Maria de Episcopo.


Motorbike itinerary between the two coasts

Castellammare di Stabia

The itinerary starts from Castellammare di Stabia, where the archaeological excavations of old Stabia are present. Going along the SS 145 you go towards Sorrento, visit the historic center, located on a natural terrace from which you can admire the coast and the surrounding vegetation, but also the splendid island of Capri.

After leaving the Sorrento city you reach it Positano where, from a long staircase, you can reach the beach.

Amalfi

Continuing on the highway 163 you arrive in the beautiful Amalfi, home of the old maritime republic. Walking through its streets you can admire the Cathedral of Sant'Andrea with the Arab-Sicilian facade.

The territory of Amalfi is famous for its PGI lemons, used in the best typical dishes of the area, especially in salads and fish, but it is used to produce the famous lemon liqueur, limoncello. But there are many specialties on which Amalfi lemon is used, from coffee to desserts, up to babà.

Continuing along the state road, we arrive in Vietri sul Mare, where it is possible to visit its provincial museum dedicated to ceramics. After taking the SS 18 you arrive at your destination, that is to Salerno.

Salerno

Of the city of Salerno you can admire its historic center, with the Trieste waterfront, the Cathedral of Santa Maria degli Angeli, Castelli di Arechi, the Minerva Garden, the municipal Villa, the medieval aqueduct and the archaeological museum, with many finds of the territory.

But it is precisely the surrounding area that gives other emotions.

In fact, you can visit the varied territory that goes from the sea to 950 meters of Monte Stella.


Itinerary "Cilento by motorbike"

An itinerary full of historical places and breathtaking views, this is Cilento.

Paestum

It starts from Battipaglia, with its Castelluccio, and then runs along the coast of the Gulf of Salerno to Paestum, where there are the beautiful ruins of the Greek city founded in the mid-seventh century. BC and then became Posidonia with the Romans.

Inside you can admire the Temples of Hera, Athena and Apollo, but also the heroon, the tomb of the founder or the Roman amphitheater.

Castellabbate

Palinuro

We return to the state highway to reach Palinuro, but the places we will travel in the meantime cannot but deserve a visit: Acciaroli, Ascea and Velia, among many others, the latter Greek city founded in 540 BC with the name of Elea.

You finally arrive in Palinuro, where the Marine Caves will kidnap you with their beauty, home to myths and legends, the name of the city would derive from Palinuro, Enea's helmsman.

Continuing along the coast, take the regional road 562 to Marina di Camerota, here the road then leads to Lentiscosa and San Giovanni a Piro, places known for their scenic beauty.

Sapri

After passing Scario you arrive in Sapri, the final stage of the itinerary, where you can visit the Baronial Castle or see the Torre della Specola, but obviously its beaches will welcome anyone who wants to immerse themselves in its clear waters.


Itinerary from Pompeii to Cumae

For those who love archeology or history can not fail to undertake this beautiful itinerary.

Castellammare di Stabia

As a starting point there is Castellammare di Stabia, with its archaeological park of the old Stabia.

Pompei

Take the state road 145 towards Naples and after a few kilometers you will arrive in the splendid and unique Pompeii, the city crystallized since the eruption occurred in 79 AD

Continuing on the SS 18, you arrive at Torre del Greco, from which you can take a trip up to Vesuvius, the volcano that overlooks the spectacular landscape of the Gulf of Naples.
Going down to the valley, you cannot absolutely avoid a visit to Herculaneum, another city devastated by the 79 eruption, very similar to the excavations of Pompeii.

Napoli

The SS 18 will guide you to Naples, which certainly needs no introduction.

The Neapolitan city certainly deserves a slightly longer visit.

The walks in the historic center must absolutely include Piazza del Plebiscito, with the Royal Palace and the Basilica of Saint Francis of Paola, with its spectacular dome.

Castel dell'Ovo

Castel dell'Ovo it is located in the islet where Partenope was founded, the first Greek housing nucleus, which then moved further south to the so-called 'new city', in Greek Neapolis. The new city will be founded near the current Castel Nuovo.
